What is Profermin®?

Profermin® is an oat-based drink which is fermented with the lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum 299v.

Profermin® is a disease-specific food for special medical purposes for the dietary treatment of ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is designed and produced specifically to be part of these patients’ diet.

The positive effect of Profermin® on ulcerative colitis and IBS is scientifically and clinically documented.

Unlike medicines, Profermin® has no medical side effects.

The dietary treatment typically lasts 24 weeks for ulcerative colitis and 12 weeks for IBS.

Patients must drink Profermin® 1-2 times per day.

Profermin® consists of: water, oat flour, barley malt flour, lecithin and lactic acid bacteria L. plantarum 299v.

Profermin® does not contain milk, dairy components, taste and color additives or preservatives.

Profermin® contains small amounts of gluten from the barley malt flour.
